The French Room: Reviews & Ratings

I was truly blown away by the service at The Adolphus Hotel. To be honest, I’ve stayed at and visited most of the major hotels in Dallas, so I rarely feel surprised anymore. But today, the Adolphus reminded me why I love hotels in the first place. When I arrived, the valet location had changed, and I’ll admit I was a little annoyed at first. But everything that followed completely erased that feeling. If I could give a thousand stars, I honestly would. Grant from the concierge team was exceptional. It felt like he was everywhere at once, quietly taking care of everyone throughout the hotel. When I mentioned that we were there to celebrate a special day for my friend, he checked in on her throughout the day, making sure she was enjoying herself. When she shared that she’s considering getting married, he took time out of his schedule to personally tour her through the hotel, thoughtfully explaining each space. What stood out most was that, unlike many hotels, someone actually took the time to explain the art and history throughout the property. That rarely happens. Every single staff member we encountered was incredibly kind. Not the polished, scripted kind of friendliness, but genuine, heartfelt warmth. When we asked for photos, staff members treated it as if they were taking photos for themselves, suggesting better angles and spots. While we were waiting for our car, employees even came out to sing a birthday song for my friend. I also want to especially thank Alfonso, our server at The French Room. Even after our service had ended, he went out of his way to take photos for us, waited patiently, and made sure we were taken care of until the very end. His thoughtfulness and genuine care meant so much to us. I wholeheartedly recommend the Adolphus Hotel for weddings, special occasions, events, or any meaningful celebration. In my opinion, it is the best hotel in Dallas.

This review is strictly on the afternoon tea. The hotel is definitely elegant and full of histories. While restaurant itself is not big but is plushy decorated and formal. Although the dress code was not strictly enforced, people were dressed nicely. As for the food, the scones and the desert are much better than the sandwiches but really nothing stood out. Also, children under 12 has children afternoon tea menu. The service by Carlos was top notch. He was professional, knowledgeable, attentive, and funny. In short, you are really there for the service and the ambient experience. With respect to parking, valet parking which cost $12 is probably the best or only choice. Just make sure to validate your ticket at the front of the restaurant to get a discount.

To be clear, this is my first High Tea experience. So I have nothing to compare it to. A few details to keep in mind, the French Room is INSIDE the Adolphus hotel, smack dab in the middle of downtown Dallas. Be prepared for traffic and some walking if you dont use their valet service. Now, for the fun stuff. I went with 3 other Ladies to celebrate our August birthdays. This experience was classy. It took me a while to figure out WHY it felt so different from another just restaurant lunch. 1. When I walked into the hotel to get direction to the French room, the desk lady was attentive, made eye contact, was friendly, nor was she on her phone. Now to be clear, seeing workers on their phone never really bothered me, we are addicted to them. But there was something so completely professional about the interaction, it left a positive impact. 2. Same thing once I got to the hostess stand. They were attentive, I was greeted by two individuals who were quick to say 'welcome'. They weren't on their phones and were not surrounded by a glob of waitstaff. 3. It is reservation based. They will not seat you till your whole party has arrived and they give you a 15 min grace period from your reservation. 4. This is dress coded. Business casual. Me and my party all wore dresses. It was fun to see everyone else at other tables dressed up also. It helped make such an elegant atmosphere and helped curate the experience. You went seeing anyone in pajamas. 5. The hotel was built in the early 1900s and was absolutely stunning with plenty of sitting and had a moody vibe. The architecture was beautiful and the French room was open, airy, and had beautiful light. 6. The food was yummy. You might be concerned that it won't be enough food. But I couldn't finish my last biscuit because I was so full. So trust me, it is enough. 7. They added candles to our cakes for our birthday! 8. When it came to the tea, we were given two options. Our server seemed well educated about tea, where it came from, what it would pair well with, and if it would taste well with sugar or/and creamer. 9. While we had a main server, all the waitstaff took care of us. I think there was about 5 on duty, and we interacted with each one. From filling our water, tea, or bussing our table. Our glasses were never empty. I can go on and on and on. But this was the best dining experience I have had in a LONG time.

We came here for dinner. The food was decent. I think it's definitely more of a bar at night than a dinner place. We had drinks which were what you expect from a hotel bar (decent but nothing special). My husband had the burger which was good (4/5). Not much can be said of a burger. My ravioli was good (3/5), but it was quite salty. I had to flag down the waitress to ask for some bread to tone down the saltiness. The of the show was the crepe suzette (6/5). I didn't taste the gin in the ice cream, but I could definitely taste the orange liquor (I believe they used Cointreau). The best compliment I can give is that it is not too sweet (IYKYK). My main complaint about this place was the service. Because gratuity of 20% is already added we really never saw our waitress.

The high tea experience started off on a low note. I kindly asked to move to a window table for my friend’s birthday so we could get better lighting for photos, but one server with a bob haircut was rude and pretentious. She began speaking to me in Spanish while telling me we couldn’t move because it was reserved for a table of four, even though our table also had four seats but we were a party of three. Thankfully, the hostess was happy to move us. After that, everything turned around. Huge shoutout to Connie, she was amazing! She explained the menu thoroughly and made my friend’s birthday feel special. If you ever need someone to take photos of you, please ask for her. She will get you right with all the angles. I felt like I was on America’s Next Top Model when she told me to ‘smize’. Adolfo was also incredibly kind and attentive. His humor and warmth is what the world needs more of! They make a fantastic team and truly elevated the high tea experience and made it a 5 star visit. I would definitely come back for their service only and the delicious desserts. Merci!

If you want to feel special, come to the French Room. You can tell the bartenders "I want what you would serve Beyonce". "Make me a very red / blue cocktail" *What's your favorite spirit cocktail factory tour?' And you're guaranteed to have a good conversation.

Huge shout-out to the French Room at the Adolphus! My wife had her Bridal Luncheon here and everyone had a blast. It was a great way for the Bridesmaids and range of Family Members to meet each other and enjoy the famous Afternoon Tea at the Adolphus. Thank you for creating such magical experiences both for my now wife and everyone who attended this event.
